› Is an environmental job for you? Listen to the voices of environmental workers as they tell their career stories in their own words:
I am an ecological design resident at an experimental Ecovillage and sustainable house at a small liberal arts college. I began the job two years ago, excited about the wide range of work I could be doing.
Many people seem to automatically think of radical Greenpeace activists blocking whaling ships when they think of environmental workers. Though the field does have its fair share of radicals, many of us simply love science, ecology, agriculture, education, architecture, and have a deep desire to do good in the world and leave it to our children in better shape than it is now.
Ecological Design Resident
The firm I worked for owned a demolition company, asbestos abatement company, and a hazardous waste remediation firm.
Environmental work takes you all over the world, and that is something people need to realize before getting involved in the field.
Asbestos Estimator
I am an Environmental Program Developer and College Professor of environmentally specific technology as well as generalized academic programs.
My heart and soul are involved in my job. Loving the earth and finding such great ways to express that love is everything in life to me.
I go to work every day because I love the earth and the people who inhabit it. I feel really good and very proud of myself and the work that I do when I deliver an environmental lecture and the students seem to be in awe of what they are learning.
Environmental Program Developer
My job title is Environmental Scientist II and I am a federal employee for the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
My job consists of measuring air quality in the field and setting up equipment, as well as training local and state environmental workers with how to measure and monitor air quality.
I really like knowing I am part of improving air quality and the environment. It makes me feel good about myself and like I am making changes for the better for our citizens.
Environmental Scientist
I manage a team of environmental scientists and businessmen to find environmentally positive solutions for government defense contract projects.
I definitely think that I have found my calling. I have always been a tree-hugger. I get up and go to work every day to find a better solution for our world. It makes me feel really good whenever one of our proposals is accepted.
