Position Summary:
The Environmental, Health and Safety Technical Specialist has delegated responsibility for programs and leads global projects to support company EHS initiatives. With supervision, work includes defining and implementing programs and projects to address new or changed standards, certifications, and regulations including those required for management of hazardous substances, EHS management systems, and safety program responsibilities.  Position may also work with Rockwell Automation businesses to proactively deliver strategies for new and existing projects, ensuring they meet relevant regulations and internal requirements.
 
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Functional

  • Support, implement, and maintain strategies to ensure company compliance with environmental and safety regulations, and internal policies and procedures.  Present strategies to stakeholders and decision-makers to secure support for programs, as necessary.
  • Support strategies to ensure Rockwell's compliance with environmental standards and regulations related to waste handling, transportation, and disposal.
  • Responsible for centrally planning, scheduling, and system performance of ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18000 systems, at the global level.
  • Provide support as a "Subject Matter Expert" on various environmental and safety topics to extended EHS team members.

Leadership

  • Works on moderately scoped projects with detailed instructions as a team member, including enterprise-wide projects, to ensure compliance to new or changing requirements.
  • Effective team member and is committed to organizational goals; fosters collaboration among team members and among teams; uses teams to address relevant issues.
  • Accountable for meeting commitments and deadlines. Demonstrates principled leadership and sound business ethics; shows consistency among principles and behavior; builds trust with others through own authenticity and follow-through on commitments.
  • Ensure thorough familiarity with policies and procedures relating to standards of business conduct and behaves with full compliance with the letter and spirit of such policies.

Interpersonal

  • Work with functions including operations, manufacturing, field service, sourcing, HR and others, to ensure successful and timely development of programs.
  • Assist in the development of communication strategies internally (newsletters) as well as external stakeholders, for internal and third-party reporting.
  • Able to apply self-management techniques to include: acting with integrity, demonstrating adaptability, setting personal development goals, and working efficiently.
  • Presents in a small group environment (less than 20 people).
  • Liaise with functional groups to communicate (two-way) performance assessment and regulatory requirements to facilitate global standardization of EHS activities.
  • Actively attends to and conveys understanding of the comments and questions of others; listens well in a group.  Promotes a climate of active listening and open communications.

Business

  • Build partnerships at the department level of business units.
  • Assist in developing, managing and distributing Key Process Indicators (KPI's) for projects, programs and the cost centers, and provide scorecards for upper management.
  • Contribute to organizational performance through timely implementation of projects that produce business results. Maximize business/unit/group results through personal accomplishments and influence.
  • Comprehends the needs and requirements of customers or business partners in order to bring strategic value to them.  Promotes regulatory compliance and internal customer needs as the key drivers for business goals and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications:
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • B. S. Degree in Environmental Sciences, Safety, or related field; in lieu of degree, will consider a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in an EHS related field with knowledge in the application of basic EHS principles, theories, and techniques.
  • Legal authorization to work in the US is required. We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening 

Preferred:

  • Previous experience integrating ISO standards

TRAVEL

  • Willing to travel up to 35% (may include international) for promotion and implementation of various initiatives and programs.
